ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION (ADR)
Course Description
This training course outlines the nature of dispute resolution processes and strategies for dealing with conflict that used as the prevention and settlement mechanisms. These mechanisms composed of negotiation, mediation, conciliation, and the arbitration mechanism. ADR commonly used to refer to a variety of alternatives to litigation, in which a neutral third party assists the disputing parties, includes a full range of dispute resolution processes between direct negotiation and litigation. The course provides an overview of dispute resolution methods, applications, sources of information, and how to use and effectively participate in ADR.
Course Objectives:
Participants will learn dispute resolution skills and how to select the most cost-effective and least intrusive ADR method to achieve the most positive result for both parties. Students will understand the processes and methods of ADR techniques; learn the proper application and limits of ADR techniques; appreciate the ethical considerations involved in ADR, and develop a basic ability to apply ADR methods. This training course is designed to train and qualify the participant to develop or participate in ADR processes and involves participation in a five-day (40 hours) training workshops.
Participants will review the growth and application of settlement options in Cambodia. They also demonstrate the following skills through successful completion of all required coursework and assignments as well as the comprehension of the functions of ADR and its purpose. The participants compare and contrast the differences between ADR and litigation by examining the different approaches in negotiations, explain the functions of a mediator and demonstrate problem-solving techniques for mediation.

Participants will be chosen from a wide variety of backgrounds in government, non-government and private sector circles in order to facilitate dialogue and better understanding across sectors and social divides.
The fee for the course is USD 150, inclusive of tuition, stationary, and coffee breaks (to be paid in full before the course starts). The number of participants is limited to 25, and we encourage you to apply or register for the course and further information.
