The Best Practices in Mediation
Jimmy Srun, Alternative Dispute Resolution Advisor - Federal Emergency Management Agency
Has shared the best practices in mediation for the trainee mediators and ADR practitioners as follows:
1. Conflict Coaching:
2. Be Present
3. Follow-Up
1. Conflict Coaching:
- Prior to the mediation session;
- People need guidance;
- They are confused what their problem in or what solution they want.
2. Be Present
- Stay in the movement;
- Practice mindfulness;
- Breathe.
3. Follow-Up
- Mediation Agreement are easy to create, but tough to put into action;
- Ask parties when a check-in would be appropriate;
- Provide coaching to mediation participants on ensuring the agreements.
